Carbon BalanacedAt Web Wiz, we are committed to cutting our carbon emissions and recycling through our Power Usage and Efficiency Program by reducing the amount of energy our servers and office equipment consume.

For those carbon emissions that we are not able to eliminate we have for the 4th year in a row partnered with The World Land Trust through their Carbon Balanced Program in order that Web Wiz is a Carbon Balanced Company.

The World Land Trust is a UK Registered Charity who has since 1989 worked to conserve the Worlds Rainforests through their Carbon Balanced Projects.

At Web Wiz to reduce energy consumption when equipment is replaced the old equipment, where possible, is always recycled and new equipment and servers must have a lower carbon footprint.

Web Wiz servers are purpose-built in-house for their required task selecting components for their green credentials like low voltage Intel Xeon CPU’s and Intel Solid State Hard Drives.

IPv6 ISPThe Internet uses IP addresses in order to work, the present version of IP Addresses, known as IPv4 is set to run out in some regions within the next 12 months. A new IP Address system known as IPv6 is slowly being introduced.

Web Wiz was allocated our first IPv6 Address allocation from RIPE at the beginning of this year. We have created the following page on IPv6 to inform customers about what IPv6 is and our deployment of IPv6 across our network.

Web Wiz Becomes an Independent Local Internet Registry (LIR)

28 February 2012 - Posted by Web Wiz, in Web Wiz News, Hosting Services

RIPE NCC Member LogoWeb Wiz is pleased to announce that we are now a Member of RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) and a Local Internet Registry (LIR).

This places Web Wiz with other major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and allows us to make direct IP address allocations on behalf of our customers.

Although the internet is mostly unregulated, the allocation and registration of Internet number resources (IP Addresses) is controlled very carefully by five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs).

The Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation and serves as one of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). Its service region incorporates Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The RIPE NCC is responsible for the allocation and assignment of Internet Protocol (IP) address space, Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) and the management of reverse domain names within RIPE NCC service region.

More information on RIPE can be found at www.ripe.net
