UK Solar Powered Data Centre

In May 2018 we opened our new purpose-built UK Eco Data Centre, one of the prime objectives was to build a Green Energy Efficient Data Centre.

Today Web Wiz are pleased to announce the completion of our on-site PV Solar Array that will generate electricity to power both our Eco Data Centre and our Office.

Our PV Solar Array consists of 50 high efficient German made Hanwha Q.Cell Solar Panels able to produce 305 Wp each. To increase the performance further a SolarEdge system has been fitted that uses Power Optimisers on each Solar Panel coupled with a SolarEdge Inverter allowing each Panel to work independently increasing the amount of power generated by up to 25%.

Our Solar Panel Array can provide 7 times more power on a sunny day than is used by our Facility and over a year will produce 80% of the electricity we use in our Data Centre and Office.

Being in the UK sunshine is rather limited especially during the winter months, so we are unable to have a 100% Solar Powered Data Centre, therefore there will be times when we will need to use Utility Power.

For carbon emissions from the use of Utility Power, we have since 2010 partnered with The World Land Trust through their Carbon Balanced Projects to off-set all our carbon emissions.
