EU Cookie Directive, is your Website Ready?24 May 2012 - Posted by Web Wiz Hosting Team, in Hosting Services UK websites will be required to comply with the EU Cookie Directive as of this Saturday 26th May 2012. Is your website in compliance?
On the 26th of May 2011, the EU Cookie Directive became law. The UK Information Commissionaire’s Office (ICO) gave UK websites 12 months to comply with the new Directive. If your website is not in compliance you could be fined up to £500,000.
Under the EU Cookie Directive, any cookie deemed as 'non-essential' that is set by your website or through scripts embedded in your web pages will need to be opt-in and would require consent from the visitor before you can set cookies in their browser.
Many websites owners may not realise that their website set cookies, but if you use Google AdSense, Google Analytics or similar then your website will be settings cookies in the browsers of people visiting your website.

Nominet, the non-prophet body who manage the UK namespace have changed the way UK Domain Names can be registered allowing 1 to 10-year registrations instead of 2 year period registrations.
This change will give customers the opportunity to lock in their UK Domain Names for up to 10 years, giving greater security, a longer period between renewals, and can also aid with Search Engine Optimisation.
