UK Solar Powered Data Centre11 September 2018, in Web Wiz News, Web Wiz Data Centre![]() Today Web Wiz is pleased to announce the completion of our on-site PV Solar Array that will generate electricity to power both our Eco Data Centre and our Office. Our PV Solar Array consists of 50 high efficient German made Hanwha Q.Cell Solar Panels able to produce 305 Wp each. To increase the performance further a SolardEdge system has been fitted that uses Power Optimisers on each Solar Panel coupled with a SolarEdge Inverter allowing each Panel to work independently increasing the amount of power generated by up to 25%. Our Solar Panel Array can provide 7 times more power on a sunny day than is used by our Facility and over a year will produce 80% of the electricity we use in our Data Centre and Office. Being in the UK sunshine is rather limited especially during the winter months, so we are unable to have a 100% Solar Powered Data Centre, therefore there will be times when we will need to use Utility Power. For carbon emissions from the use of Utility Power, we have since 2010 partnered with The World Land Trust through their Carbon Balanced Projects to off-set all our carbon emissions. |

Poole Data Centre Efficiency22 August 2018, in Web Wiz Data Centre![]() Our new Eco Data Centre has been running now for 3 months (May 2018 to August 2018) during this time we have been keeping a record of energy usage. To calculate the efficiency of a Data Centre and help identify areas where improvements can be made The Green Energy Grid came up with Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metric. Over the first 3 month period our new Eco Data Centre has been running it has run with a PUE rating of 1.41. This is very good but we believe that it could be better. By measuring our PUE we have identified areas such as UPS and Cooling Systems where further efficiencies can be made. We are looking into solutions with the help of Dorset County Council's Low Carbon Dorset to further reduce energy consumption. |

HTTPS - Is Your Website Ready for Chrome 68?05 July 2018, in Hosting Services![]() Chrome 68 will include a security check to see if the website is using an encrypted connection over an HTTPS web address. To avoid this 'Not Secure' label the website would need to have an SSL/TLS Certificate and all traffic be directed to an HTTPS web address. Web Wiz is able to provide an SSL/TLS Certificate for our Hosting Customers for as little as £29.95 + VAT per year. SSL Certificates bought through ourselves include the application submission to the SSL authority and setting up the SSL certificate on the Customers website with a Search Engine Optimised (SEO) redirect from the previous HTTP address to the new HTTPS address. For more information please create a Ticket in your Client Area Account; |
