Web Wiz Blog > Web Wiz NewsTesla Batteries Store Renewable Solar Energy26 November 2019, in Web Wiz News, Eco Data Centre![]() After a successful trial of Tesla's rechargeable lithium-ion battery system over the past seven months to store excess Solar Power during the day to use overnight, we have now doubled the number of Tesla's lithium-ion batteries that we have. The additional Tesla batteries will allow Web Wiz to be self-sufficient for electrical power needs for a large part of the year using only the renewable energy produced by our on-site Solar power generation.
Vast Data Centres consume enormous amounts of power that add to the IT sector global CO2 emissions which is on par with the airline industry* At Web Wiz, we believe in providing a sustainable alternative for customers to host their websites. Eco Data Centre Achieves 100% Uptime Since Opening20 May 2019, in Web Wiz News, Eco Data Centre It has been 1 year since we opened our Eco Data Centre on the 17th of May 2018. In this year our Eco Data Centre has accomplished 100% Uptime with no outages to our Network. To reach 100% Uptime, we have built a Multihomed Network with Diverse BGP Routing using multiple fibre connections from BT OpenReach and Virgin Media entering our facility at opposite ends of the building. 100% Uptime is an incredible achievement for a new Data Centre as there are usually teething issues in the first year, and we are all very proud of this achievement.

Even after dark, our Hosting is still powered by the Sun09 May 2019, in Web Wiz News, Eco Data Centre Thanks to our new Tesla rechargeable lithium-ion battery system we are now able to store the excess energy generated by our on-site Solar Panel Array to use overnight, allowing our Eco Data Centre to be powered by the Sun even after the Sun has gone down! Our Eco Data Centre and Office are powered by our on-site Solar Panel Array of 50 high-efficiency PV Solar Panels which can produce up to eight times more renewable electricity energy than we currently require. Our new Tesla rechargeable lithium-ion battery system is able to store this excess energy which is then used to power our Eco Data Centre during the night.

Data Centre Free Air Cooling and Heat Recovery22 February 2019, in Web Wiz News, Eco Data Centre In May 2018 when we opened our new purpose-built Eco Data Centre, one of the prime objectives was to build an Ecological Energy Efficient Data Centre.Since the opening of our Eco Data Centre, we have been working to improve the efficiency, this includes developing a Direct Air (DA), Free Air Cooling and Heat Recovery System. The system uses the mild climate we have here in the UK to cool our Eco Data Centre using digitally controlled EC Ducting Fans with the waste warm air circulated within our facility. This keeps our Servers cool and our Office at a snug 20°C even on the coldest days. We have been operating our Free Air Cooling and Heat Recovery system since the start of this winter and during that time have not needed any additional heating in our Office, even during the recent snowy period. The new system has reduced our facilities Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating to just 1.16 making it one of the most efficient Data Centres in the world.

Web Wiz Carbon Offsetting 2018-201916 October 2018, in Web Wiz News, Hosting Services At Web Wiz we are committed to cutting our carbon emissions and off-setting those carbon emissions that we cannot eliminate. The majority of the electric power we use comes from our on-site Solar Panel Array we still need to use utility electricity at times. While our electricity provider uses only 100% Renewable Energy Sources, like everyone else in the UK our electricity comes from the National Grid which uses a mixture of renewable, nuclear, coal, and gas. We therefore still offset all the electricity that we use. For the 8th year, we have partnered with the World Land Trust through their Carbon Balanced Programme to offset our Carbon Emissions.
For in-depth information on how our contributions help protect carbon-rich wildlife habitats, the World Land Trust has provided us with a Carbon Balanced Report. |
