Data Centre Free Air Cooling and Heat Recovery

22 February 2019, in Web Wiz News, Web Wiz Data Centre

Direct Air (DA), Free Air CoolingIn May 2018 when we opened our new purpose-built Eco Data Centre, one of the prime objectives was to build an Ecological Energy Efficient Data Centre.

Since the opening of our Eco Data Centre, we have been working to improve the efficiency, this includes developing a Direct Air (DA), Free Air Cooling and Heat Recovery System.

The system uses the mild climate we have here in the UK to cool our Eco Data Centre using digitally controlled EC Ducting Fans with the waste warm air circulated within our facility. This keeps our Servers cool and our Office at a snug 20C even on the coldest days.

We have been operating our Free Air Cooling and Heat Recovery system since the start of this winter and during that time have not needed any additional heating in our Office, even during the recent snowy period.

The new system has reduced our facilities Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating to just 1.16 making it one of the most efficient Data Centres in the world.

Web Wiz Carbon Offsetting 2018-2019

16 October 2018, in Web Wiz News, Hosting Services

World Land TrustAt Web Wiz we are committed to cutting our carbon emissions and off-setting those carbon emissions that we cannot eliminate.

While much of the electric power we use comes from our on-site Solar Panel Array we still need to use utility electricity at times.

While our electricity provider uses only 100% Renewable Energy Sources, like everyone else in the UK our electricity comes from the National Grid which uses a mixture of renewable, nuclear, coal, and gas. We therefore still offset all the electricity that we use.

For the 8th year, we have partnered with the World Land Trust through their Carbon Balanced Programme to offset our Carbon Emissions.

For in-depth information on how our contributions help protect carbon-rich wildlife habitats, the World Land Trust has provided us with a Carbon Balanced Report.

UK Solar Powered Data Centre

11 September 2018, in Web Wiz News, Web Wiz Data Centre

Solar Powered Data CentreIn May 2018 we opened our new purpose-built UK Eco Data Centre, one of the prime objectives was to build a Green Energy Efficient Data Centre.

Today Web Wiz is pleased to announce the completion of our on-site PV Solar Array that will generate electricity to power both our Eco Data Centre and our Office.

Our PV Solar Array consists of 50 high efficient German made Hanwha Q.Cell Solar Panels able to produce 305 Wp each. To increase the performance further a SolardEdge system has been fitted that uses Power Optimisers on each Solar Panel coupled with a SolarEdge Inverter allowing each Panel to work independently increasing the amount of power generated by up to 25%.

Our Solar Panel Array can provide 7 times more power on a sunny day than is used by our Facility and over a year will produce 80% of the electricity we use in our Data Centre and Office.

Being in the UK sunshine is rather limited especially during the winter months, so we are unable to have a 100% Solar Powered Data Centre, therefore there will be times when we will need to use Utility Power.

For carbon emissions from the use of Utility Power, we have since 2010 partnered with The World Land Trust through their Carbon Balanced Projects to off-set all our carbon emissions.

Web Wiz Opens New Data Centre

17 May 2018, in Web Wiz News, Web Wiz Data Centre

Web Wiz Poole Data CentreWeb Wiz is pleased to announce the opening of our new 1,800 sq. ft. Tier II Eco Data Centre facility in Poole, Bournemouth, Dorset on the South Coast of the UK.

The location of the purpose-built Data Centre was selected as it situated on the highest point in Poole to reduce the risk of flooding.

Green energy efficiency was at the heart of our new Eco Data Centre design, with Generators powered by Natural Gas rather than Diesel and A++ rated Heat Exchangers to keep the Data Hall cool.

We understand that to our customers' service outages are a major concern that is why we have two diverse Fibre Connections coming into the building at opposite sides, one from BT OpenReach and the other from Virgin Media.

Over the next couple of months, we will be migrating our Equipment and Servers co-located at 3rd Party Data Centres over to our new Poole Data Centre.

If you would like to book a tour of our new Eco Data Centre facilities please contact Web Wiz.
