Web Wiz Forums Security/Bug Fix Release 9.06

06 October 2007 - Posted by Web Wiz Development Team, in Web Wiz Forums

Security vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer's handling of images could lead to XSS hacks against your forum. Web Wiz Forums version 9.06 helps to defend against such attacks with improved security filtering.

This latest version of Web Wiz Forums has been released after our latest security audit which found that an vulnerability in the way IE handles images could be used to launch an XSS attack against Web Wiz Forums.

All users or previous versions are advised to upgrade to this latest release to protect their forums against potential threats.

Web Wiz Forums 9.06 also addresses a number of bugs reported by users in the previous 9.05 release.

Web Wiz Forums version 9.05 Released

11 September 2007 - Posted by Web Wiz Development Team, in Web Wiz Forums

The uptake of Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) with native PNG support has been much slower than anticipated when Web Wiz Forums version 9 frontend began development in December 06. This has lead to a number of issues with the speed of rendering of images in IE 5 and 6. This latest release of Web Wiz Forums fixes this issue by using GIF images for users who are using older versions of IE.

Other fixes and changes include fixes in the Member API System, Login System, and in the Private Messaging System.

Web Wiz Forums version 9.04 Released

03 September 2007 - Posted by Web Wiz Development Team, in Web Wiz Forums

This latest release of Web Wiz Forums makes allot of changes to add both new features and fix issues found in previous releases;

Member API Updated
The member API has now been updated. New features include being able to link the login, logout, and registration within Web Wiz Forums directly to your own sites member system, giving much tighter integration and a smoother process between Web Wiz Forums and your own system. This should also fix a few concerns people had with the old API.

View Last Unread Post
A new feature adds a "View Last Unread Post" icon to Web Wiz Forums. This new system works alongside the real-time display of unread posts in Topics and Forums. If a Topic or Forum Contains an Unread Post the "Last Post" grey icon is replaced with a yellow icon that will take you directly to the Last Unread Post. Mousingover the icon will also display the number of unread posts.

Other new and improved features includes:-

  • Improved support for Asian, Middle East, and Eastern European character sets
  • Fixed issues with Windows Authentication/Active Directory API
  • Performance has been increased on a number of pages
  • Auto-login feature updated, and will hopefully resolve a few cookie issues with IE
  • Increased size of the Post Editors
  • Improved RRS Feeds for Calendar System
  • Fixed a number of other reported issues
